Silkroad Online Server Hosting

A Silkroad Online private server is built on Windows and Microsoft SQL Server, and its process architecture is layered: GatewayServer handles the client's first connection and the server list, AgentServer takes over the session and runs game traffic, DownloadServer distributes client updates, and shard processes run the world. The practical consequence of this layering is that a single bottleneck can stall the whole server: when AgentServer waits on MSSQL, players see it directly as lag.

The amounts in the table are the monthly net price of each processor option and match the calculation in the configurator. The value option uses DDR4 memory, the performance option DDR5. Billing period (3, 6, 12, 24, 36 months) and extra resources are calculated in the configurator. Some recommended values exceed this product's maximum, so the price is calculated from the configuration clamped to that limit; for higher resources, review the dedicated servers.

How to choose the hardware

The Windows Server baseline is 2-3 GB, the MSSQL buffer pool 4-12 GB depending on database size, and the gateway/agent/shard processes total around 3-6 GB. As with other MSSQL titles, the weight of RAM planning sits in the database, and the MSSQL Express limits (buffer pool ~1410 MB, database 10 GB) apply here too. On the CPU side AgentServer produces single-threaded load at peak hours while shard processes parallelise, so both clock speed and core count help. When DownloadServer is distributing a client update, network and disk read load spike briefly.

Which processor family?

Most game servers run on a single thread, so per-core performance matters more than core count.

Intel i9-10920X

DDR4Value

The value option. 12 cores / 24 threads with DDR4. Because the gateway, agent, download and shard processes run separately, core count helps directly on Silkroad, and per-resource pricing is most attractive for single-shard setups.

Ryzen 9 7950X

DDR5Performance

The performance option. Zen 4 with DDR5. Because AgentServer produces single-threaded load at peak hours, clock speed shows up in tick time; and since MSSQL is sensitive to memory bandwidth, DDR5 additionally improves query latency.

Setup steps

  1. 1Provision the server with a Windows Server template; the Silkroad server processes and MSSQL require Windows.
  2. 2Install MSSQL Server, restore the databases and check the edition limits up front.
  3. 3Align the IP and port values in the GatewayServer, AgentServer and shard configuration files with your server's real IP; this is the most frequently skipped step and the source of most connection failures.
  4. 4Start the processes in order: MSSQL, then GatewayServer, then AgentServer and the shard processes.
  5. 5Open ports 15779 (gateway) and 15882 (agent); do NOT expose the MSSQL port (1433) externally.
  6. 6If you will distribute client updates, plan separate bandwidth for DownloadServer; egress traffic spikes briefly on update days.
