RedM Server Hosting

RedM is built on the same CitizenFX stack as FiveM and carries the same architectural constraint: the server executes almost all script work on a single main thread. Core count is therefore not what matters, per-core performance is. On a VORP Core, RSGCore or RedEM:RP server, MySQL/MariaDB runs on the same machine. What differs from FiveM is the volume of streamed assets: clothing, horse, weapon and map assets are noticeably larger, so storage capacity and latency become limiting earlier.

What is a RedM server?

RedM is the multiplayer modding platform for Red Dead Redemption 2, developed by the same team as FiveM (Cfx.re). The stack is very similar: RedM's own artifacts run on the server, management goes through txAdmin, and roleplay servers are usually built on a framework. The technical decision follows the same logic — because script execution happens largely on a single main thread, per-core performance sets tick time. The difference from FiveM is that RDR2's larger, more detailed map means bigger streamed assets, which pushes storage capacity and read speed one step further up the list.

These values map one to one onto the VDS plan steps in our catalogue. Intermediate values can also be selected in the configurator.

The amounts in the table are the monthly net price of each processor option and match the calculation in the configurator. The value option uses DDR4 memory, the performance option DDR5. Billing period (3, 6, 12, 24, 36 months) and extra resources are calculated in the configurator.

How to choose the hardware

Slot count drives RAM and script density drives CPU; on RedM the third variable is streamed asset volume. Because RDR2 assets are larger than their GTA V counterparts, 80-120 GB of storage is common on a 64-slot roleplay server. Budget roughly 50-70 MB per player, a fixed 8-12 GB for the resource list and streams, and 2-4 GB for MySQL. NVMe is a requirement rather than a preference here: the number of assets read when a player enters an area turns into visible hitching on SATA SSD.

Which processor family?

Most game servers run on a single thread, so per-core performance matters more than core count.

Intel i9-10920X

DDR4Value

The value option. Cascade Lake-X with DDR4 memory and 12 cores / 24 threads. On RedM servers up to about 32 slots and on budget focused projects its per-resource pricing is clearly lower, which makes it the sensible pick.

DDR5Performance

The performance option. Zen 4 with DDR5 and the highest single-core performance in our catalogue. Because RedM runs its main thread on one core, this is what determines tick time at higher slot counts. DDR5 bandwidth also helps with RDR2's large streamed assets.

Setup steps

  1. 1Install the server with an Ubuntu 22.04 or Debian 12 template; CitizenFX's Linux artifacts are tested against these.
  2. 2Install the RedM (rdr3) artifact through txAdmin and enter your keymaster licence key.
  3. 3Install MariaDB on the same machine and import the VORP/RSGCore database.
  4. 4Open port 30120 TCP/UDP; extra IPs and rDNS are managed from the Datafex panel.
  5. 5If your stream folder is large, pin the resource load order in server.cfg; the first boot can take a while because of asset indexing.
  6. 6Keep the server behind Fexwall; CitizenFX UDP floods are absorbed by L3/L4 filtering.

Common mistakes

  • Copying a FiveM resource plan verbatim. RDR2's streamed assets are larger, so storage needs are higher than FiveM's.
  • Investing in core count. Because script execution sits on one main thread, clock speed is what decides.
  • Not planning for the database. In a framework-based roleplay setup it runs on the same machine.

Migrating from another provider

The order matters when moving a live server: back up the game files and the database on the old server, install the same version on the new one, import the database, then update the address your players connect to. Move the database last — if both servers stay online together for a while, player data splits in two and cannot be merged afterwards. Do not shut the old server down until the new one is verified.

If you get stuck on a step, open a support ticket; we help with the installation steps.

What is included at Datafex

Fexwall L3/L4 DDoS filtering is included free on every plan. That is the layer a game server needs; a CDN in front of HTTP does not protect the game's UDP traffic.

Every plan uses NVMe SSD. The database runs on the same machine as the game server, so storage latency turns directly into in-game stutter.

Servers are in Türkiye, at the DGN data centre in Bursa. Transit is 100 Gbps domestic and 10 Tbps international.

Setup completes automatically within minutes. Extra IPs, rDNS and firewall rules are managed from the customer panel.
