FiveM Server Hosting

A FiveM server runs on a single main thread: FXServer executes almost all script work on one core. What matters is therefore not core count but per-core performance. On an ESX or QBCore roleplay server MySQL/MariaDB also runs on the same machine, so storage latency turns directly into stutter for your players.

What is a FiveM server?

FiveM is the multiplayer modding platform for GTA V, developed by Cfx.re. Running your own server means you define the rules, vehicles, map and economy; players connect with their own copies of GTA V. Most servers are roleplay focused and built on a ready-made framework such as ESX or QBCore. The software that runs on the server is FXServer, usually managed through the txAdmin panel. The thing to look at when choosing hardware is not core count: because FXServer executes nearly all script work on a single main thread, tick time is set by per-core performance. Storage is the second factor, since the database runs on the same machine and query latency turns into stutter for players.

Recommended plan by player count

These values map one to one onto the VDS plan steps in our catalogue. Intermediate values can also be selected in the configurator.

The amounts in the table are the monthly net price of each processor option and match the calculation in the configurator. The value option uses DDR4 memory, the performance option DDR5. Billing period (3, 6, 12, 24, 36 months) and extra resources are calculated in the configurator.

Prices exclude VAT (20%).

How to choose the hardware

Slot count drives RAM, script density drives CPU. An empty 64-slot server boots with 4 GB, but an active roleplay server means 100+ resources, MySQL, and roughly 40-60 MB per connected player. NVMe storage makes a clear difference over SATA SSD for MySQL query latency; every Datafex plan uses NVMe SSD.

Which processor family?

Most game servers run on a single thread, so per-core performance matters more than core count.

Intel i9-10920X

DDR4Value

The value option. Cascade Lake-X with DDR4 memory and 12 cores / 24 threads. Its per-resource pricing is clearly lower, which makes it the sensible pick in the 1-64 slot range and for budget focused projects. Single-core performance sits below the 7950X.

Ryzen 9 7950X

DDR5Performance

The performance option. Zen 4 with DDR5 memory and the highest single-core performance in our catalogue. Because FiveM runs its main thread on one core, this is what determines tick time at high slot counts. DDR5 bandwidth also helps on servers with heavy streamed assets.

Setup steps

  1. 1Install the server with an Ubuntu 22.04 or Debian 12 template; FiveM's official Linux artifacts are tested against these.
  2. 2Install FXServer through txAdmin and enter your keymaster licence key.
  3. 3Install MariaDB on the same machine and import the ESX/QBCore database.
  4. 4Open port 30120 TCP/UDP; extra IPs and rDNS are managed from the Datafex panel.
  5. 5Keep the server behind Fexwall; FiveM UDP floods are absorbed by L3/L4 filtering.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing many cores at a low clock speed. FiveM runs its main workload on one core, so adding cores will not fix tick time — look at per-core performance.
  • Forgetting the database. MariaDB runs on the same machine as the game server, so a RAM and storage plan sized only for the game server will fall short.
  • Leaving an upgrade too late. Tick time degrades quickly past a certain occupancy; plan the upgrade when slots reach about 70 percent.
  • Trying to protect game traffic with a CDN that fronts HTTP. Port 30120 UDP does not pass through that layer; what you need is L3/L4 filtering at the network layer.

Migrating from another provider

The order matters when moving a live server: back up the game files and the database on the old server, install the same version on the new one, import the database, then update the address your players connect to. Move the database last — if both servers stay online together for a while, player data splits in two and cannot be merged afterwards. Do not shut the old server down until the new one is verified.

If you get stuck on a step, open a support ticket; we help with the installation steps.

What is included at Datafex

Fexwall L3/L4 DDoS filtering is included free on every plan. That is the layer a game server needs; a CDN in front of HTTP does not protect the game's UDP traffic.

Every plan uses NVMe SSD. The database runs on the same machine as the game server, so storage latency turns directly into in-game stutter.

Servers are in Türkiye, at the DGN data centre in Bursa. Transit is 100 Gbps domestic and 10 Tbps international.

Setup completes automatically within minutes. Extra IPs, rDNS and firewall rules are managed from the customer panel.
