Metin2 Server Hosting

A Metin2 private server is not a single application but a set of cooperating processes: the db process holds the database cache, the auth process handles logins, separate game cores run for each channel, and MySQL/MariaDB sits underneath them. What determines resource needs is therefore not just the concurrent player count but the number of channels and cores you open. The second factor is that most original Metin2 binaries are still 32-bit and require 32-bit compatibility libraries on the distribution.

What is a Metin2 server?

A Metin2 private server runs on the game's own server software and has long had a large community in Türkiye. The architecture differs from other games: instead of one process, several connected components run — an auth server, game cores (ch1, ch2 and so on) and a MySQL database. That structure is what shapes the resource plan: because each channel is a separate process, CPU needs grow with channel count, while the database runs on the same machine and is sensitive to storage latency. The server software and files are obtained separately from the game itself; Datafex provides the hardware and operating system, and you install the game files.

Recommended plan by player count

These values map one to one onto the VDS plan steps in our catalogue. Intermediate values can also be selected in the configurator.

The amounts in the table are the monthly net price of each processor option and match the calculation in the configurator. The value option uses DDR4 memory, the performance option DDR5. Billing period (3, 6, 12, 24, 36 months) and extra resources are calculated in the configurator.

Prices exclude VAT (20%).

How to choose the hardware

The practical calculation works like this: each game core takes 400-700 MB, the db process 500 MB-1.5 GB, auth 200-400 MB, and MySQL 2-6 GB depending on database size. A typical 2-channel x 4-core setup fills 8 GB once MySQL is included. On the CPU side, vCPU count is a real lever because each core runs on its own thread; the game loop inside a single core is single-threaded, however, so clock speed matters on a busy channel. On storage, MySQL binlog and player table growth need to be accounted for.

Which processor family?

Most game servers run on a single thread, so per-core performance matters more than core count.

Intel i9-10920X

DDR4Value

The value option. 12 cores / 24 threads with DDR4. Because Metin2's per-channel core processes spread across separate threads, core count helps directly, and this processor offers the most attractive per-resource pricing for multi-channel setups.

Ryzen 9 7950X

DDR5Performance

The performance option. Zen 4 with DDR5. Because the game loop inside a single channel is single-threaded, clock speed decides behaviour on a busy channel; and if MySQL runs on the same machine, DDR5 bandwidth shows up in query latency.

Setup steps

  1. 1Pick the distribution your server files target; because Metin2 binaries were historically compiled for FreeBSD, some packages depend on specific versions.
  2. 2If your binaries are 32-bit, install the 32-bit compatibility libraries; otherwise the processes fail to start without printing any error.
  3. 3Install MariaDB and import the account, player and common databases.
  4. 4Start db, auth and the channel cores in that order; game cores cannot connect until the db process is up.
  5. 5Open ports 11002 (auth), 15000 (db) and 13000+ per channel, leaving only what genuinely needs to face outward.
  6. 6Keep the server behind Fexwall; Metin2 private servers attract heavy UDP and connection flood attacks.

Common mistakes

  • Planning resources as if it were one process. Each channel is separate, and CPU needs grow with channel count.
  • Not accounting for MySQL. The database runs on the same machine, and storage latency turns into in-game latency.
  • Squeezing auth and game cores into the same resource budget. The auth server produces its own load at peak login times.
  • Not planning database backups. Player characters live in MySQL and loss cannot be undone.

Migrating from another provider

The order matters when moving a live server: back up the game files and the database on the old server, install the same version on the new one, import the database, then update the address your players connect to. Move the database last — if both servers stay online together for a while, player data splits in two and cannot be merged afterwards. Do not shut the old server down until the new one is verified.

What is included at Datafex

Fexwall L3/L4 DDoS filtering is included free on every plan. That is the layer a game server needs; a CDN in front of HTTP does not protect the game's UDP traffic.

Every plan uses NVMe SSD. The database runs on the same machine as the game server, so storage latency turns directly into in-game stutter.

Servers are in Türkiye, at the DGN data centre in Bursa. Transit is 100 Gbps domestic and 10 Tbps international.

Setup completes automatically within minutes. Extra IPs, rDNS and firewall rules are managed from the customer panel.
