Unturned Server Hosting

Unturned servers are light on resources; a 24-player server runs comfortably on 4 GB. Memory and storage are driven mainly by workshop maps and mod packs, and a large custom map alone can take several gigabytes.

What is a Unturned server?

An Unturned server hosts a survival-focused multiplayer world with low system requirements. The server software is installed through SteamCMD, and servers that want plugins typically use RocketMod or OpenMod. The game is technically light, which makes it a reasonable starting point for a first server: a mid-tier VDS comfortably handles high player counts. Resource needs are driven by map size and the number of loaded plugins. Curated Workshop maps can need more memory than the official ones, so it makes sense to settle on which map you will run before choosing a plan.

Recommended plan by player count

These values map one to one onto the VDS plan steps in our catalogue. Intermediate values can also be selected in the configurator.

The amounts in the table are the monthly net price of the Intel I9 10980XE plan and match the calculation in the configurator. Billing period (3, 6, 12, 24, 36 months) and extra resources are calculated there.

Prices exclude VAT (20%).

How to choose the hardware

RocketMod/OpenMod plugins and custom economy systems add CPU load, but single-core performance is sufficient in most scenarios. Above 48 players, or with large map packs, moving one plan up is advisable. Leave storage headroom for workshop content.

Which processor family?

Most game servers run on a single thread, so per-core performance matters more than core count.

Unturned's requirements are modest, and a high clock is sufficient even on plugin-heavy servers.

Setup steps

  1. 1Install with an Ubuntu 22.04 template and download the Unturned dedicated server via SteamCMD.
  2. 2Open UDP ports 27015-27016.
  3. 3Add workshop map and mod IDs to WorkshopDownloadConfig.json.
  4. 4If you install plugins, boot the server once clean and let the configuration files generate.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming Workshop maps need the same resources as the official ones. Some curated maps need noticeably more memory.
  • Growing the plugin count without control. RocketMod and OpenMod plugins run on the main thread.
  • Skipping backups because it is a first server. Player progress is held server-side and loss cannot be undone.

Migrating from another provider

The order matters when moving a live server: back up the game files and the database on the old server, install the same version on the new one, import the database, then update the address your players connect to. Move the database last — if both servers stay online together for a while, player data splits in two and cannot be merged afterwards. Do not shut the old server down until the new one is verified.

If you get stuck on a step, open a support ticket; we help with the installation steps.

What is included at Datafex

Fexwall L3/L4 DDoS filtering is included free on every plan. That is the layer a game server needs; a CDN in front of HTTP does not protect the game's UDP traffic.

Every plan uses NVMe SSD. The database runs on the same machine as the game server, so storage latency turns directly into in-game stutter.

Servers are in Türkiye, at the DGN data centre in Bursa. Transit is 100 Gbps domestic and 10 Tbps international.

Setup completes automatically within minutes. Extra IPs, rDNS and firewall rules are managed from the customer panel.
