On shared web hosting we administer the server and you create sites, mailboxes and databases from a panel. A VDS is delivered empty: you choose the operating system and install the web server yourself. So the decision depends less on which is more powerful and more on whether you want to administer a server. Which one to buy
Shared web hosting
Buy web hosting when your site is a content or brochure site or a standard WordPress install and the package limits for disk, traffic and domain count cover your needs. Server updates, backup infrastructure and email come with the package, and your job is just publishing the site.
ConfigureVDS (virtual server)
Buy a VDS when you have an application that needs its own runtime, when you will run long-lived background jobs, or when you exceed the package disk and traffic limits. In exchange, OS updates, security hardening and backup design become your responsibility.
ConfigureA package limit or a resource limit?
Hosting packages are defined by countable limits such as disk, traffic, domains, databases and mailboxes, and the table lists all of them. A VDS instead has limits expressed as vCPU, RAM and disk, which can be raised in the configurator. So a full quota is solved differently on each side: on hosting you move up a package, on a VDS you add resources.
Who runs the mail
Hosting packages include a set number of mailboxes and mailbox storage, with setup and deliverability handled by us. On a VDS you can run your own mail server, but SPF, DKIM, DMARC and IP reputation management become yours as well. Buying a VDS purely for email is rarely the right call.
Watch the VAT treatment
The two sides carry different VAT treatment in the catalogue, and each table states its own. When you compare the two amounts, bring them to the same tax basis first, otherwise the gap looks either smaller or larger than it is.
Frequently asked questions
- Is web hosting enough for WordPress, or should I buy a VDS?
- For a standard WordPress install with reasonable traffic a hosting package is enough, and its limits are listed in the table. If you run many plugins, a heavy commerce install, or your own cache and search services, you need to move to a VDS.
- Does a VDS come with a control panel?
- A VDS is delivered with an operating system template and you install whichever panel you prefer on top. If you expect a ready-made web panel, a hosting package fits better because the panel is already part of it.
- Will my site be migrated when I move from hosting to a VDS?
- The two services are separate environments, so migration is not automatic. You restore the backup taken from the hosting panel onto the new VDS and repoint DNS to the new IP yourself. Do not close the old package before the new environment is verified.
- Are the hosting contents in the table the full package?
- The contents row lists the package's published limits as they are. Prices come from the same source, the product catalogue, and neither value is typed into the page by hand.
